How To Recover Data After Windows Has Crashed !!

Many of us have been in a situation where windows has crashed and we are unable to boot into windows again. The question that comes to our mind at that moment is how to recover the data in the windows. The data might be your music collection the photos and videos of friends and your loved ones, your office data etc.In this article i suggest to you a simple way by which you can do this.A Linux live CD  is the thing you need at such a situation.

What is a Linux live CD ?
A Linux live CD is a complete bootable operating system which will run only from the memory(RAM) the Hard Disk space will not be utilized while booting from a live CD.Distro hoppers use live CD's to test out a operating system before installing. Some people even use live CD to make online bank transactions as there is no chance of any malware being on a live CD. A live CD in no way alter the files and operating system already present on a Hard Disk. There are innumerable uses of a Linux live CD which will be looked in another article. One can also make a live USB .A  live USB will be much faster than a live CD but your motherboard should be able to boot from a live USB.

To recover data any Linux operating system can be used.Light ones like puppy Linux are fast to boot and copy the data at lightning speed. Here is how you can recover the data with puppy Linux :
  •  download puppy Linux from here .
  •  burn the .iso file to to a CD to make live CD.Use software such as yumi to make live USB.To know how to make a live USB by yumi click here.
  • put in the live CD or connect the live USB and let computer boot  into it.If  USB boot is not enabled go to the bbot menu and enable it.wait for the GUI to appear.
  • once you have logged into the Linux mint live.go to "home",now you can see your drives on the left side of the window. Now copy paste the data to a USB drive from the crashed windows drive.
  • now all your data is safe in your USB drive.

How to use gprs internet on puppy linux?

I have been playing around with puppy linux for a while. Puppy linux is very  fast and use minimal system resources. The boot is lightening fast and the gui is also clean. The first thing that one would want to do when one sets up a new disto is to connect it to internet and customize it.Here i today guide you how to connect to internet via gprs by using your mobile as a modem.the systems i am using are:
  • Nokia C2

  • Compaq CQ40 -317TU

  • Softy connectivity adapter cable CA-101
  • Gprs internet - service provider bsnl india
follow the steps given below:
  • Boot to puppy Linux and connect your mobile phone to computer via the cable. As i am using nokia c2 i got following options on my mobile on the connection
                                                           *data cable
                                                           *printing&media
                                                           *data storage
select the first i;e data cable
  • Now download cdc-acm-update-k2.6.33.2.pet from here. You would require this to help find your mobile .now go to TERMINAL or the thing called CONSOLE in the desktop and type "dmesg"(without thecotes of-course  )at the end of the command output if you can see somthing like this "cdc_acm 5-2:1.4: ttyACM0:USB ACM device" this means your mobile is detected and can be used.
  • Click on the network icon in your tray .Now the network connection wizzard pops up.Click on the internet through wireless gprs option.

  • Now the pgprs modem setup wizard pops up,fill it up as follows:-
serial modem device file:/dev/<your device name>
APN:the APN of your service provider(contact the ISP or Google it up)
         USERNAME:your username(usually your phone number)
         PASSWORD:your password(usually your phone number)
PHONE NUMBER:the number of ISP which should be dialed to connect to internet
PHONE PIN:1234(leave it as such it works with most cell phones or enter the pin if you have changed the default pin)

Here is how i filled it up(i am using the services of Bsnl India), Serial modem device file:/dev/ttyACM0
         APN:bsnlnet
         USERNAME:my phone number
         PASSWORD:my phone number
         PHONE NUMBER:*99#
         PHONE PIN:1234

(Bsnl guys with Nokia mobiles can just copy me as it is except the cell no.)
  • Click on the "ok" button, now you would be shown a message "connect to internet using 'PGPRS Connect' in the 'network' menu".click on the "okay" button.one last time go to console again and type "dmesg"(this is to conform that your mobile is detected )
  • Go to MENU>NETWORK>PGPRS CONNECT.If all goes well you will connected to internet.

  • To disconnect press "Cntrl +C"
